1956 Pontiac       Tommy Rivers' current project is this 1956 Pontiac 2 door hardtop. He found this 12,000 mile original car a few years ago in Ohio. It seemed at the time that all it would need was a good detailing, but that idea would soon fade. Once he started driving it, every seal that was suposed to contain the liquids let go, and everything rubber began to crumble. So, now it is in for a complete frame-off restoration. Tommy is taking a different tack with this one and staying completely original.
This Sport Coupe was built at the GM Assembly Plant in Arlington, TX, but soon found it's way to Kansas and then Ohio. It has a V8, automatic transmission, and dealer installed a/c.
One of the more interesting things about this car is the original 1957 Texas State Inspection Sticker, that is still affixed to the passenger side of the unblemished windshield. 1957 Texas State Inspection Sticker

The old Pontiac made it's first public appearance at the Peanut Festival Car Show on Oct 15, 2005 winning an award in the "Unfinished Class".

Next up will be a stay at the upholstery shop. That wild air cleaner set-up is genuine '56 Pontiac. Yes, there are two 4-bbls sitting up there! Hang the fuel prices, this is for fun!

Over two years in the making, this 1956 Pontiac is the first project that GoneCruisin.com has been able to follow from beginning to end. We picked a good one, as it already has at least one "Best of Show" under it's belt. No small feat at Boggy Depot 2006 with over 200 quality entries competing.

Jamies Mustang

July 2004

Mark Dixon's better half, Jamie, has been working on this Mustang. She has done most of the work herself, and is not afraid to get her hands dirty. They found a Ford Granada donor car for the rearend and discbrakes. It will be painted blue and flamed from front to rear. It also will have a 302 with a C4 transmission rolling on a set of "old school" Cragars. Hope to have it rolling in a few months.

How does this relationship work with Jamie building a Mustang and Mark building a Camaro? Can these two rivals share a garage?

September 2004

An update on Jamie's Mustang, three months later. It is coming together nicely. She is having to do a little more front suspension work than originally planned, and that is slowing the project just a bit.

Look closely in the background. The Mustang and Camaro really do share the same garage!

May 2005

Jamies car is rolling finally. the new suspension and disc brakes are done, it has the cragars on it and rolled out to be washed off last week. The motor is ready to go in, hopefully it will be in it soon.

January 2006

The engine is in place, and all the missing parts have been located! Jamie says to warn all the car show guys that this Lady and her 'Stang will be there this year and ready to WIN!!!

Some before and after shots of Buddy Merrick's '32 Ford Roadster. He has added this rear mount spare tire, going for what he calls "newstalgia".
But wait til you see what's happening on the other end of this thing! Not one, not two, but six 50s era Stromberg 97 2-bbl carbs are being plated and polished, and will soon be sitting atop the small block Chevy under the hood.

complex linkage With no computer on board to monitor the fuel flow, this pre-electronics linkage looks like a nightmare!

The "Big Logo" Stromberg 97s are very rare. Buddy found this matching set of six on e-bay. They appear to have been used very little, if at all! Stromberg 97

NOW IT'S 2006,

...and this little roadster is wowing the crowd! Those six Strombergs do more than just look awesome, they are functional too! Buddy calls this car the "Texas Six Shooter". At the Fort Worth Rod & Custom show the Roadster won "Best 32" competing with 35 others.
More recently it has won "Best of Show" at the Whitesboro Peanut Festival. One of the perks of that award is having the car featured on next year's t-shirts.
